LONG BEACH POLICE WAR ON DRUGS

Long Beach’s arrests exceeded San Jose, which has nearly twice the population, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, whose primary service area contains six times as many residents.

Among police departments for the state’s 15 largest cities, the average was 15 marijuana arrests per 1,000 residents over the decade. Long Beach more than doubled that rate at 38 arrests per 1,000.
